The Backyard exists to elevate and affirm life itself by investing in culture, community and commerce. Our space will reflect a range of experiences with a year-round offering.
Comprised of 12 different food, beverage, music and culture offerings across 35 acres, The Backyard is an exciting upcoming space for Bee Cave, TX and beyond. Those familiar with The Backyard’s 20+ year history in music will find its legacy honored in the Live Oak Ampitheater, a 3,700 seat state of the art music venue.
The Backyard Hotel is the district’s anchor stay — a 161-key Hill Country lodge designed by three around the mood words “indoor/outdoor connection,” “escape,” and “compression/release of space.” The program splits across a five-story, 120,436 SF hotel tower and a four-story, 52,616 SF cabana building wrapped around a pool courtyard, with guest suites running mostly spacious one-bedroom layouts (85 King, 64 Double Queen) plus a handful of studios and two-bedroom suites. Arrival happens through a porte-cochère auto court into a ground-floor lobby, with the lobby-lounge and restaurant lifted to the second level so dining opens straight to the terrace and the sky.
Beyond rooms, the hotel carries the district’s event and social engine: a 17,020 SF retail-and-ballroom building (10,005 SF ballroom over 7,015 SF of ground-floor retail), a restaurant with an open-air dining deck, the Backyard Plaza, and an event lawn that ties the stay directly into the live-music heritage of the site. A “condo tower or future hotel addition” pad is held in the plan, giving the asset a built-in second phase rather than a fixed ceiling.

The retail at The Backyard is laid out as a walkable village rather than a strip — a network of shops, restaurants, and shaded paseos threaded between the hotel, the residences, and the grocery anchor, with patios designed for golden hour. The concept plan distributes retail across several pads, including dual retail/office buildings near the Bee Cave Parkway frontage and a grocer-anchored cluster by the pond, so daily errands and destination dining share the same connected streetscape. Even the hotel contributes ground-floor retail (roughly 7,015 SF beneath the ballroom) plus a market and restaurant, keeping the district active at street level from morning coffee to late dinner.
A grocery hall serves as the everyday anchor — the practical heart that keeps foot traffic steady and gives residents and office workers a reason to be on-site daily, not just on weekends. (Individual tenant and retail SF figures beyond the hotel component aren’t yet quantified in the local plans.)

Living at The Backyard means stepping out of your door into the district itself. The masterplan sets condominiums and multifamily residences on the higher, quieter western edge of the site, wrapped around pool courtyards and shaded by heritage oaks, with everything the district offers — dining, the market, the event lawn — a short walk away. The architectural language carries the same Hill Country palette as the hotel: stone, timber, standing-seam metal, and deep indoor-outdoor connection. (Unit counts and residential SF aren’t yet tabulated in the current plans — these are shown as program blocks only.)
Entertainment is the soul the rest of the district is built around. The Backyard’s identity grows out of its live-music legacy — the Live Oak Amphitheatre name and the long-Texas-evening, full-crowd energy captured in the concept’s own mood boards. An event lawn, a pavilion, and a timber gathering space beneath string lights give the district a programmable cultural heart, turning it from a place to live into a place that draws the whole region in for a show, a market, or a festival.
